WordPress hosting: choosing a plan that fits the site
There is no separate “WordPress plan” here, and that is fine: what matters is whether the plan’s limits fit your site. This page shows how to tell.
What WordPress needs from a host
- A current PHP version that your theme and plugins support. The PHP version can be switched per site from the control panel, without a support ticket.
- A MySQL database for each WordPress site, plus phpMyAdmin to inspect it.
- SSL, so the site loads over https. A free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate is issued and renewed automatically for each domain on the account.
- Cron jobs, so scheduled posts and maintenance run on time rather than only when someone visits.
WordPress runs on every plan: PHP with a version you choose, a MySQL database, phpMyAdmin and free SSL. Goji documents a manual install; a one-click WordPress installer is not part of what is verified here.
Match the plan to the site
Add up three numbers: how many WordPress sites you will run (each needs its own database), how much storage the files, uploads and database will use, and how many mailboxes you want on the domain. Choose the smallest plan that clears all three with room to grow. Our rules of thumb, applied to the plans on sale right now:
- One blog or brochure site: Starter is the cheapest plan with room for one site and a database.
- A shop or busy blog (our rule: at least 10 GB and two databases): Growth.
- Up to three sites (including a staging copy): Pro.
These are our editorial rules, not Goji’s. Images and uploads grow faster than the database, so leave headroom.
Installing WordPress here
Goji documents a manual install on its DirectAdmin accounts: create a database, upload WordPress, run the installer. It takes about ten minutes. A one-click installer is not something we can verify, so we do not promise one. Goji’s WordPress hosting guide has the steps.
After it is running
Keep WordPress, themes and plugins updated and take your own backups, because Goji does not take them for you (security basics). If the site feels slow, work out whether it is the host or the site before upgrading.
